Hergé 100 years

Today Hergé, belgian comic artist and creator of the fearless adventurer and journalist Tintin, would be celebrating his 100th birthday.

Any fans of Tintin and Captain Haddock around here by any chance? Care to share your favorite episode?

Somewhere
I still have those audio tapes of Tintins adventures read and acted by Tomas Bolme, Bert-Åke Varg and Åke Lindström.

Bomber och granater,

I love Tintin - I remember the one about the mystery in a pyramid in Egypt. I think LA has read some too, in English, but they were borrowed at a Swedish library. I have never seen them here in the US. Aren't they making an animated movie about Tintin now?

The dog Milou is the coolest, always eager and on track.

About Tintin's cars - I didn't realize they were so accurate and so many kinds. The artist must have been a car fantast!

It's not just the cars that are very accurate. Aeroplanes, boats and the milieus in general are very true to the real world.

In fact there is an exhibition opening now at the maritime history museum here in Stockholm were they are using Hergés comics to show parts of the seafaring history.

I think all of the books were made into animated movies, but I don't like them very much. Somehow something was lost in the transfer to moving pictures.

There's a Tintin movie in production now scheduled to be shown 2009. Is that the one you were thinking of, LS? I have no idea whether it will be animated or not.

It is a pity if they aren't easily available in the USA. The dog Milou seems to be called Snowy over there by the way.

I think the episode I remember best is when Tintin and co. are to be burned at the stake by south american natives, but saves himself "by darkening the sun" (he knew about a coming solar eclipse).

PP, if there is one book in particular that you would like to read I could bring one, they exist in English at adlibris.com. Have a look and tell me, but soon, so it arrives before I leave for America!

Hmmm....

Wow, there are a lot of memories from the Tintin stories i our family! What was the name of the two detectives, Dupont and Dupond?

I remember the opium incident too - poor Malin!

Moralpanik.

Ah, Sweden is becoming more like US, all mention of drugs and sex are forbidden. "What you don't know can't hurt you", typ. Skalman and Bamse did the right thing, so what is the problem? Malin, what if you had read Bamse when you were little, would you have had bad dreams about trollkarlar then?

I read in NY TImes that they are making a 3D animated movie with Tintin - O.K., I saved the article for you.
