No more Gourmets

At least, no more Gourmet magazines, a monthly magazine that started in 1941 and won't be published after November due to the bad economy. It isn't my favorite magazine, but it is good, and it is sad to see it go. It was the first food magazine I subscribed to in the US. They had great articles about food around the world, wonderful recipes, and mouth-watering photos of heaping plates. The editor is my favorite food writer Ruth Reichl. I find it pretty amazing that they decide to stop a magazine that is printed in nearly 1 million copies each month. Can't they stop Golf Illustrated, Wall Street Journal, or Southern Living instead? Bye, bye, Gourmet. This makes me so sad. Why can't we get rid of Hummers, stupid thousand-dollar shoes and corrupt politicians and businessmen, and keep Gourmet instead? And Conde Nast, the publisher, is my new 'evil company'; see below.

"A source close to the now-shuttered Gourmet magazine reports that employees have been given just 48 hours to clean out their desks and go. Some of the staffers had been there 30 years and more. " (link)

More links for RIP Gourmet articles: here, here, here, here, here. I also admit that sometimes I found it annoying, but I still loved it. Of course, we still have Fine Cooking and Saveur as magazines, but it is not the same thing.

hmmmm, so I guess it was good luck I decided to not pay the subscription bill last night? We are still subscribed thru feb.

Wow that is stunning, a million copies and they call it quits?

I am still mourning this, and will for years to come.
