There's a company in Portland that makes journals out of books like these - mostly library discards.
I always find it sad when books are destroyed or thrown away, even if they are old and not that interesting anymore. To make covers into writing journals is a lot better recycling, than just throwing books into the regular paper recycling. Somewhere on the web is a company that does the same with topographic maps - makes book covers, envelopes and notecards out of them. Maps are like books - tells a story and is an inspiration for the imagination.
