Vintage Shorpy has the best photos of historical Americana that I have seen on the web. This one reminded me of our basement and its lathe burrs on the floor. Some mornings we find these metal pieces on the kitchen floor, brought there by the cats' tails that act like dust mops and transporters (link to more)

Metal curlers in the 1940s
