Bird Identification needed by newbie birdwatcher

  1. It is either a Common grackle or a Boat-tailed grackle, depending on the size and how long the tail is. I can't really tell from the photo, and both species are in our backyard.

Great photo, I love that iridescent sheen!!!

  2. Looks like an unusual crow to me. I recommend Simon Barnes, "How to Be a Bad Birdwatcher" (2004). Mycket trivsam läsning.

  3. Olle's last comment in Swedish means "Very nice reading".

I am not sure if grackles are related to crows, I should look it up. But right now I am packing for the Costa Rica trip, leaving at 4 AM tomorrow morning.

  4. For you English readers - what o.k. is referring to is the three classes of birds in Sweden: tiny bird (pippi), duck (anka), and eagle (orn), made famous is a skit by comedians Hasse and Tage I think.
