Google celebrates Pippi Långstrump (Long Stocking) on her 65th birthday
Today is Pippi Långstrumps (Pippi Long Stocking) birthday, it´s been 65 years since the first book was published in Sweden. Google is celebrating by showing her on the logo in some countries, not US, but in Sweden. Read more here in swedish.
Happy Birthday, Pippi! You are one of my favorite heroes. Here in the US not many have heard of you, which is too bad. I just checked and the Google home page here in the US is just the boring Google logo, nothing special.
The word pippi also means bird, but I don't think that has anything to do with Astrid Lindgren's book character. She has made up childrens name before that have become real names that people use, like Ronja (as in Ronja the Robber's daughter, another great book).
