Stamp of the day: birds from Iceland

  1. "Knipa" and "Skarv" - those Swedish names are really funny when you think of it. One means to sqeeze, and the other is the word for a joint (like a wood joint, not what you smoke).

    As I said when we were at the Norwegian bird mountain Runde in the 80's (untranslatable):
    "När det regnar går skarvarna upp i limningen."
