Tour de France: Smokin'

After yesterday's prologue, today is the first stage of the Tour de France 2007. I feel like celebrating that with a picture from the era when "Men were made of steel and boats were made of wood", as cousin E once said. Le Tour has changed in character quite a bit since then.

  1. What were women made of back then? Wool? Or maybe hemp rope?

Great picture! All those French hills and mountains need to be conquered once a year. Reminds me of PP and me reading about the race on foot up to the top of Mt Washington in New Hampshire - the winner ran to the top in one hour I think. Amazing!

  2. Starched linen! ;)

The biking clothes were all wool back then, pink spandex for men is a modern invention...

Up Mt Washington in one hour? Did they check the winner for doping with helium?
